10 reasons why kids should learn BJJ

learning to do a bjj roll

There are many many reasons for why you should definitely consider enrolling your kid/s into a BJJ class.

These are our top 10 reasons.

Number 1: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is SUPER FUN!

You get together with a bunch of friends and roll around on the mats, exercising, 'wrestling' and 'play fighting' in a safe, controlled environment.

What's not to like? :)

Number 2:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu works! So not only is it fun but this martial arts actually works. It is a system used by military and law enforcement worldwide and not to mention professional mixed martial arts fighters who continuously test and prove its effectiveness in a 'live' fight.

Number 3: Because it works, your child will come to understand the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a viable self defence tool and will no longer be afraid of bullys and bullying. Also because the child understands the possibilities of Brazilian Jiu jitsu he or she will be more careful and mindful of those around them.

Number 4:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for everyone! Boy, girl, big, small, it really does not matter as Brazilian jiu jitsu is a martial arts that focuses on technique for its effectiveness and not strength alone.

Number 5:

Your Child will learn respect. The practices and class etiquette surrounding our Brazilian jiu jitsu classes will introduce your child and help with developing a sense of respect for their team mates, instructors and parents. Number 5: Discipline and focus. The techniques of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu require the focus to listen and learn the moves and also the discipline to practise and drill them. Even maintaining a tidy appearance during class time while wearing the Kimono / Gi is an exercise of discipline. Number 6:

The child learns to understand their physical bodies and abilities. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu requires coordination and balance for many of its techniques and concepts. They will start to learn things that they weren't able to do before and start to better understand their human body, its capabilities, limits and how to excel past them. Number 7: Confidence Brazilian Jiu jitsu will show your child that so much is possible and he or she will feel like they can do anything if they set their minds and hearts to it. They will become a super version of themselves and this will be applied to not only BJJ but to school and every day life.

Number 8:

Humility In class, because we often have activities that have a minor element of competitiveness in it, your child will experience humility through the exposure to loss. We all need to learn to lose and for a child it is an especially difficult concept to grasp as the world enforces a false concept that winning is the only way. In Brazilian jiu jitsu and in an environment of friends and team mates, he or she will learn that through losing you also learn and sometimes learn the best. Number 9:

Your child will learn to succeed.

Achievement and success is very different from winning. Learning to do a cartwheel and understanding that they will not be able to simply just do one from the get go is in itself an achievement. They will learn to crash and slowly to crash softer, that's success and one day soon they will land on their feet after doing the motions and understanding that they have truly achieved something. Number 10:

Friendship and Bonds

We see this also in our adults class. A friendship and bond occurs with their team mates that is unlike any other. Maybe its the close physical proximity, contact and shared experiences they have with each other... whatever it may be, we all become part of this Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Family.

As a parent, getting your child into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will be the best gift ever. It is the kind of gift that will continue to give, especially as the child grows older. Even into adulthood we continue to learn everyday through BJJ.

As the saying goes, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is not just a martial arts, its a LIFE STYLE.
